Today is the first day of school for teachers and students alike. I attended the staff meeting after school. I listened for the better part of two hours. Each teacher stood up and recited their report. Then the administration took over and delivered their reports. Finally the Headmaster took the floor and spoke for 45 minutes. There is clear hierarchy at play. I picked up a few words, but mostly I maintained eye contact. At least I broadcast the message that I was intent on whatever was being said.
The Headmaster and I get along well. I don't know what to owe the reason. Maybe it was the time I let him beat me in a wrestling match on the snow covered beach. Maybe because I look him in the eye, say hello, and bow. Whatever that reason-- It is likely undeserved but appreciated.
Mi-Hee, if you are reading this... we missed you at work today. I'll put more pictures up soon.
Other small observations I want to get down before I forget. Bullet proof, maybe blast proof, doors are heavy. I reached out with one arm to catch the open door to the inner building of the US Embassy. It takes all your might to keep your balance because you aren't ready for the weight and pull of the door. Then it takes two arms and momentum to swing the blast armored door open. Also, when I was walking up to the inner Embassy building there were a couple of Chrysler 300's for dignitaries parked out front running, in wait. They had 20 inch rims, hidden blue and red lights under the grill, armored doors and windows, and a flag stood on the hood that was rolled and covered. Nice looking rides that looked fit for Hip Hop Stars... or?
