I bought a used 2-stroke 50cc Daelim scooter with a new helmet for under $500. The bike has steel bars around the entire body, likely a used delivery bike. The owner of the store says it comes with A/S, and from a previous experience of buying a Gore-Tex jacket ($75) "A/S" means warranty, or return policy. The man pointed to a calendar and selected the next couple months when he said "A/S."
The bike runs fine, and feels well built. The suspension is stiff, the frame comparable to the Japanese scooters. I drove for about half an hour outside of town through the mountains and countryside. Farmers are hard at work, doing whatever it is that farmers do. Moving dirt around, putting things on their dirt... my farming knowledge is limited to my coconut palm plantation.
Cherry blossoms began flowering last week. Several families were picnicking in the many small parks that I passed. College aged kids were picnicking in the dried river beds. Like many of the places in the US, Korea seems to have water supply or drought problems. The riverbeds are mostly dry, and the big lake looks somewhat like Lake Mead. The old water line is visible 15-30 feet above current water level.
