The pictures below appear in reverse order of how I took them.  I took my scooter for a country ride and took pictures of people on picnics in the river bed.  On the way home I took a detour to follow a sign that read, "Baeron Shrine."  I followed the one lane road through a valley and arrived at an almost uncomfortably peaceful place.  There were a hundred cars parked and several charter buses.  Singing was heard in the distance.  Mountain breezes were pushing their way down the valley.  Uncomfortably peaceful.  I quickly gathered it was a Catholic site upon seeing the crucifix and Mary with son.  There was old Korean mixed in with the images-- scenes of persecution.

After doing 2 minutes of Internet search this is a holy site where Catholics hid from persecution. Here is a link to the Korean site http://www.baeron.or.kr/ . There is significant evidence of the expansion. The land is sprawling and well used with focus of preserving large green spaces.  The incredible amounts of effort poured into keeping this place feeling like a "sanctuary" I believe paid off remarkably.  I walked in the church to listen to the singing, the parishioners were receiving communion.   The large concrete structure had skylights at the peak of the building, but it still felt a bit gothic lacking large windows.
